Research & inspiration
J.J. One archive contemplates just around 10.000 pieces:
five Stone Island main collections designed by Gionata Malagodi, many other pieces realized by J.J. One through the years of its working activity like Crust, Elvstrom, Gastra, Fay, Napapjri collections and so on.
In addition to that it stores a great amount of military vintage clothes.
For people working in J.J. One the Archive is like a library, and it is called also the “great ship” mainly for the shape of the scaffolding where all the items are hanged.
Further to its historical value it represents a great inspiration source as well for the projects that we follow.
The Archive is located inside a creative space we call “Warehouse” where ideas and projects grow up. For all of us the Archive supplies a fundamental “knowledge instrument” and allows us to design and reinvent concepts in a modern key.

Past Collaborations

My Masters
My work as Fashion Designer started from an experience spent side by side with big masters of the fashion industry: some of them were considered idols and were very famous some others were only known from people of the fashion world.
My first master was Mr. Bruno Fustini owner and creator of Manuel Ritz Pipo’ Brand.
Bruno is the reason why I decided to do this kind of work.
Together with Bruno and his team I have taken my first steps inside the Product and Style department of his company where I learnt the basic concepts to start creating and developing a “total look “ collection.
This experience had been a very great one as it allowed me to come into contact immediately with many creative, commercial and marketing issues and problems as well referring to many different product categories such as outerwear jackets, tailored and informal jackets, knitwear, shirting, pants… ending up with accessories and underwear.
The Manuel Ritz Pipo’ brand was recognized as a very popular European brand from starting the beginning of the 80’s from very famous and historical fashion shops such as: Caln and Pupi Solari in Milan, Wood House in London and so on….
It was one of the most famous brands in the “total look” category and even for its informal jackets.
Its innovations contemplated the ri-editing of jackets shape, volumes, structure and length.
The Manuel Ritz Pipo’ jacket was shorter and deconstructed made with heavy carded fabrics more suitable for coats rather than for traditional jackets. Its function was a true outdoor new item.
The “Ciao” Brand was a mass market brand, it was distributed in Europe with a turnover of about 150 millions in Lira.
Ennio taught me the importance to be able to select the most important commercial aspects of a collection that would have been on the market the next year.
In addition to that I also learnt to select fabrics, colours, and the most successful items that would have succeed on the market, even thanks to the fact that “Ciao” collection was a total look..
Before giving birth to a new collection we made “market scouting” and shopping on the market in the trendiest European capitals: Paris, London, Berlin and Amsterdam where we could catch the leading concepts to develop new styles.
We came back home with more than 4000 pictures and after a selection we started developing the Collection Moods.
My third master was Mr. Stefano Durelli with Henry Cotton Brand.
In 1988 Stefano was the art Director and the inventor father too of Henry Cotton and he asked me to join his designers team.
In that period Henry Cotton was very popular in Europe and in Japan as well as it was distributed by the best retailers.
Henry Cotton was the only main antagonist of Ralph Lauren, and it was considered a true original American Brand, an icon of Anglo American Style.
Stefano was a fantastic creative man and a keen and fond expert (great connoisseur) of the habits, rules, behaviour and tastes of the cultured and rich European Gentry (Burgeoisie).
He belonged to the Jet set, “Bel Mondo” of Saint Tropez, Zermatt, and from this entourage he could get a very global and international vision of the world.
Stefano taught me how it was so important to plunge into the collection and to breath the Anglo American spirit while working on it 24 hours long.
He told me that to get the best result I had to acquire a very deep knowledge of the Anglo American Style codes and history.
My fourth master was Massimo Osti.
In 1994 I joined Massimo Osti Studio.
He needed a designer who was very fond of the Anglo American Style to develop a new project , a new Capsule for Mc Gregor Brand.
To start cooping with Massimo it was for me like to come back home.
I was born in Crevalcore, a small village near Ravarino where C.P. Company sits.
C.P. Company is one of the most important creative company I have ever experienced and attended.
The C.P. Company and Stone Island garments had been worn also by Crevalcore dustmen.
Massimo for me has been the hub of my activity through out these last years. He was different compared to the rest of designers.
His products and garments were very innovative, full of technology, and deep knowledge. They expressed heritage, history, values and they looked different form the standard offer.
New items spread from objects that already existed: the garments coming from his huge Archive.
The Archive contemplated many British, Polish, Russian and Japanese military pieces together with some American outdoor garments.
I had worked together with Masssimo and his team for 5 years and it was a period of transition and great changes for the Studio.
I had also further cooperation with Massimo after Mc Gregor, that is to say we created Production and St95, and then also Structure and Left hand collections.
Stone Island
In 2006 Mr. Carlo Rivetti offered me the Creative Direction of Stone Island Main collection under its Artistic direction.
I have been Stone designer till 2010. I took part to the Brand under construction project . This operation was due to refresh the brand allure and to bring it to its old 80’s international fame.
Paul Harvey was the second Stone Island Designer after Massimo Osti in 1988. His collection was not so complete as Massimo’s previous ones.
This was the reason why Mr. Rivetti asked me to take care of the collection in a more “democratic” way, the collection had not to look like an “Art Gallery”, he said to me.
The best praise and comment from the sales agents during the collection Technical Presentation was that they could catch the spirit of Massimo Osti in my S.I. Collection.
